Robert D. Enright, Ph.D., is a licensed psychologist and Professor of Educational Psychology at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, where he has taught since 1978. He is widely regarded as the pioneer of the social scientific study of forgiveness, having initiated the first empirical research program on interpersonal forgiveness in the late 1980s. He founded the International Forgiveness Institute and has developed forgiveness therapy protocols used in clinical and educational settings worldwide. His books include Forgiveness Is a Choice (APA, 2001) and The Forgiving Life (APA, 2012). Dr. Enright's research has been published extensively in developmental and clinical psychology journals, demonstrating the mental health benefits of forgiveness interventions for survivors of abuse, incest, and other deep personal injuries.
