William E. May, Ph.D. (1928-2014), was the Michael J. McGivney Emeritus Professor of Moral Theology at the Pontifical John Paul II Institute for Studies on Marriage and Family at The Catholic University of America, where he taught from 1991 to 2008. He previously taught moral theology at CUA from 1971 to 1991. He earned his doctorate in philosophy from Marquette University. Along with John Finnis, Robert P. George, and Germain Grisez, he was a major proponent of the new natural law theory. He authored or co-authored some twelve books and published hundreds of scholarly articles.
