Solemnity of the Annunciation of the Lord

Mary's fiat — "Be it done unto me according to thy word" — is the model for every Christian response to God's will. In that moment of consent, the Blessed Virgin united her will entirely with the Father's plan of salvation. She did not fully understand what lay ahead, yet she trusted completely.

This act of radical openness invites us to examine our own readiness to say "yes" to God, even when the path is unclear. The Annunciation reminds us that God's greatest works often begin in the quiet, hidden places of the heart — in a humble room in Nazareth, in the stillness of prayer.

Today, consider where God may be inviting you to a deeper surrender. What "annunciation" — what unexpected call or invitation — might the Lord be extending to you right now? Like Mary, we are called not to fear but to trust that "nothing will be impossible for God."

The Incarnation that begins at the Annunciation reveals the astonishing dignity of human nature: God chose to unite himself to our flesh. This mystery affirms that every human person, from the moment of conception, bears an incomparable worth. As we meditate on Mary's yes, we are drawn to recognize and protect that dignity in all whom we encounter.

Let us pray with Mary today: "Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word."

“Lord, open my heart to hear your voice today. Help me to respond with the trust and generosity of Mary.”

Amen.
